In 1995, Nassor Ali first had the idea of building a small family guest house with access to our beautiful beach. In those early days Nungwi village had no electricity. The first guests who stayed with us made a valid point: “It’s beautiful, but there’s nowhere to eat!”. Nassor listened – and planned a restaurant facing the sea. We built the restaurant and bar in 1997, and expanded to include more cottages to accommodate a maximum of 24 guests. In the following year, mains electricity was connected for the first time on the north of the island. In 1999 the reception area was built, followed in 2000 by Mahaba Cottage, our honeymoon lodge, and in 2001 by our family cottages. In 2005 we added ten new rooms in our Zanzibar House, offering superb accommodation, with that little bit extra luxury. The following year, our beautiful swimming pool was constructed. Our latest addition, is the self-catering "Fisherman" apartments that were opened in July 2008. We continue to expand our facilities to create a more comfortable atmosphere for our guests, using ideas from both visitors and staff. I have a high level of respect for my staff and regard them as members of my family. I hope they feel the same way about me. At the moment, we are in the planning stage of a new eco-tourism lodge that we will open on the island of Pemba: http://www.pembalodge.com. |
